Dogs go through 3 basic stages:
- puppy
- adult
- senior
Throughout the stages the ratios and type of nutrition needed are the same as they remain a dog the entire time.
What does change is that puppies need more of the same food. Usually, puppies need double the amount for their weight. Senior dogs need less food than an adult, due to decreasing activity.
The food quality has no reason to change, just the amounts should be changed to the individual dog's needs. AAFCO has two main standards, one for puppies and their mothers and the other for adults, these standards are simply a floor beneath which pet foods cannot fall if they are to carry a “complete and balanced” statement on their labels.
We go much further, fine-tuning our diets to optimize nutrition for all dogs, and that's why dogs do so well on our food. Our All-Life Stage foods meet and far exceed the AAFCO nutritional requirements for both growth and reproduction as well as maintenance adult diets.
Large and giant breed pups are different because they cannot regulate how much calcium they absorb so need less calcium than smaller breeds.
